What is a facial?
A facial is the most popular treatment performed by estheticians. It is a good way for me to get a good understanding of your skin prior to suggesting more aggressive treatments. A facial generally includes skin cleansing, exfoliation, steaming, extractions, facial massage, a treatment mask, serum/moisturizer and sunscreen.
How often should I get a facial?
For most people, facials can be scheduled every four to eight weeks.
I have never had a facial before, which one would you recommend?
For first time clients I always recommend the basic facial, it’s a great way to get an introduction to the service. This includes, a double cleanse, exfoliation, an enzyme mask, a cream mask and finished with moisturizer and sunscreen. If you are pleased with your service, the next visit can be a full facial. The regular facial includes all of the above plus steam, extractions and facial massage.
What product line do you use for your facial treatments?
I use Dermaware Bio-Targeted Skin Care, it’s a line created by Gul Zone, a biochemist so there’s a lot of research and science behind the products. She not only pays attention to active ingredients, which are earth-friendly but is also dedicated to using pure and quality ingredients. These botanical and vitamin rich formulas in enhanced concentrations combined with nanotechnology provide amazing results. There are so many products for me to choose from that most of the skin care concerns that my clients have I am able to address. I use Dermaware in both my facials and chemical peels services.
Do you offer microdermabrasion?
Yes, I have the Bio-Brasion Trinity by Bio-Therapeutic and I really love this machine, it removes dead surface skin cells and initiates cellular turnover. It’s a noninvasive procedure, so you have no down time when getting a microdermabrasion service. The machine comes with 5 different diamond-tipped wands to sand and resurface the skin, combined with suction to remove the dead skin cells. I can control the degree of exfoliation by customizing the number of passes, choosing the diamond-tip(s) appropriate for your skin type and choosing the suction speed. I offer microdermabrasion as a stand alone treatment or incorporated into a facial service. For the Microdermabrasion services, I use the Bio-therapeutic line which is made specifically for the Bio-Brasion Trinity.
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive treatment that involves scraping off dead skin cells and peach fuzz with a scalpel that leaves your face brighter and smoother. I am Dermaplane Pro certified and this is one of my favorite services to perform. Why?? Because the results are instant, your make-up will go on better, your skincare products will be more effective and there’s no down to this service. For a dermaplaning service I use Dermaware cleansers, exfoliants and moisturizers in addition to the Dermaplane Pro prep solution and Nourishe Dermaplaning oil and Dermaplane Pro blades.
What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is an acid solution that is applied to the skin. It dissolves the outermost layer of skin cells, which then flakes off over the following days to reveal the fresher, younger layer below. Peels are effective in treating a range of skin concerns such as aging, sun damage, acne, mild scarring, and improving skin brightness to name a few. I offer peels that are light to moderate in strength. Light peels require no down time from work and your normal activities and are a great service to get if you’re preparing for a special event. Moderate peels may require a day or two to allow the skin to fully heal. Some clients may take longer to heal depending on skin type/sensitivities. Deep peels can only be performed by a physician, or under a physician’s supervision. If you are wanting to get a deep peel I can refer you to a medical spa.
If you’re taking acne medication, Retin-A or Accutane, you will need to stop the medication before and during treatment to avoid complications. I can review any other contraindications with you prior to your treatment to determine if a chemical peel is right for you. Be sure to answer all questions honestly and completely on your consultation form prior to your peel.
What is after care for chemical peels?
After most peels, the skin will be pink to red, and look shiny and tight. It is vital to apply sunscreen of SFP 30 or greater to the skin for the next 48 hours, minimum. You must also stay out of the sun, as your skin will be very sensitive to UV rays and could be damaged by sun exposure. The skin will begin to flake or peel within 2–3 days after the treatment, unless you had a lactic acid peel—these encourage moisture retention and may not produce any actual peeling. Sun-damaged areas of your skin will appear darker at first, then will lighten. This is normal. To assist in removing the flaking skin, an enzyme peel treatment is sometimes scheduled a week or so after the initial peel. For maximum results, a series of peels is usually recommended, and may be necessary for treating challenging issues such as hyperpigmentation. Chemical peels that are done in a series of peels are recommended to be performed 7 to 10 days apart, so there will be a time commitment so definitely take that into consideration.
What is a Microexfoliation facial?
Microexfoliation is an advanced exfoliation service intended to improve the appearance of the skin, resulting in smoother looking and feeling skin. The BT-titan by Bio Therapeutic uses a single use nano tip cartridge made with medical grade silicone rather than needles for a highly controlled exfoliation service that is individually customized for each and every client. There are 5 different speeds and 6 different depths the tips to penetrate, because there are no needles penetrating the skin there is no down time to this service. Anyone wanting to help improve the appearance of aging skin would benefit from a series of microexfoliation treatments. Suggested times in between services are 4 to 6 weeks apart.
What do I need to do to prep for Microexfoliation?
A consultation is always recommended and is free to see if you would be a good candidate for this service. If you are, then one week prior to the service you will need to stop using any skincare products that have any acids, exfoliants, retinoic acid or derivatives in it.
Are there any special post care instructions?
Yes, post service it is important to stay out of the sun or gym for the first 24hrs after a service, no excessive sweating. You will also need to apply a hyaluronic acid serum several times a day for the first 3-4 days post service. On day 5 post service you may resume your normal skincare routine as long as your skin can tolerate the products. It is important to wear sunscreen on a daily basis but especially when having services such as this, make sure you also have a good sunscreen on hand.
I have never been waxed before, how is it done?
Waxing is the most common method of hair removal in spas today. Hair on any part of the body or face can be waxed. Warm wax is applied to the area and then removed, bringing the hair with it. There are two types of wax: hard wax, which is easier on delicate skin, is often used on the face, underarms, and bikini area and soft wax is used on the legs, arms, back, and chest. Waxing reduces hair growth when performed at regular 30-day intervals. Because waxing pulls the hair out by the root, it grows back softer, finer, and thinner. The more you wax, the less hair grows back. To really notice a difference in hair growth a minimum of 3 months of waxing is recommended.
Waxing should not be performed if you have particularly sensitive skin, because it can pull off a couple of layers of skin cells along with the hair. Waxing can cause tenderness and swelling. In addition, some medications will cause the skin to react badly to waxing. Don’t wax if you’re taking Retin-A, Accutane, or any type of acne prescription. For facial waxing clients please look at your active ingredients in your night time creams, if there are any Retin-A or Alpha-Hydroxy Acids please discontinue use at least 72 hours prior to your scheduled waxing appointment.
How long does the hair need to be for an effective wax?
Let the hair grow out to at least 1/8″ (about the length of a grain of rice). If hairs are too short, the wax won’t adhere strongly enough to pull them out. Refrain from taking a shower or bath before the treatment. Soaking the hair will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective.
What is after care for waxing session look like?
It’s important to care for the waxed area properly after treatment to prevent ingrown hairs, breakouts, or other reactions. Avoid using a bar soap because it leaves a film on the body that could cause ingrown hairs. Directly after waxing, avoid direct sunlight and tanning booths, especially while the skin is still red from treatment. For 24 hours after waxing, avoid exercise, hot tubs, and products with harsh chemicals, perfumes, or dyes. Apply a gentle moisturizer 24 hours after treatment.
What product line do you use for your waxing supplies?
I use Starpil wax for both my soft and hard wax as well as their skin prep and post wax care products. I specifically use the Starpil Starsoft wax beads for my hard wax. Starsoft wax is great for sensitive skin type making it a great option for all skin types. It is hypoallergenic, does’t have any perfumes, coloring agents or preservatives in its formula. For my soft wax I use their creamy pink soft wax, it’s great for gripping baby fine hair as well as thicker strands of hair, also hypoallergenic and melts to a smooth and velvety texture.
Do you offer brow/lash services?
I do not, however I do work at a full service salon and there is another licensed esthetician who offers a variety of eyebrow and eyelash services.
Do you take walk-in appointments or should I schedule an appointment in advance?
Advanced appointments are recommended, if I have time to accommodate a walk in appointment I will definitely do my best to do so.
What forms of payments do you accept?
You can pay for your services with cash, credit card or personal checks. If paying by credit card there will be an additional 3.95% service fee from the processing company on top of the total.
Are gift certificates available to purchase?
Yes, gift certificates are available for purchase through me directly or from the salon.
